What should I expect during the consultation?

Our estimators are highly-experienced and trained to guide you through the process step-by-step. A typical consultation will take about 30 minutes to complete. What should I look for in a good painting contractor?

There are many factors that you should carefully consider when choosing a painting contractor to work on your home. All painting contractors are NOT created the same. Where is the best place to locate good painting contractors if I decided to get multiple estimates before I make my decision?

There are many resources available to you when you’re trying to locate additional options for painting contractors. However, there’s no guarantee that any of the random names that you’ll find in your local phone book or online will be reputable contractors. There are two excellence sources where we recommend you begin your search.  

First is the Better Business Bureau. At your local BBB.org website you can search for Better Business Bureau Accredited Painting Contractors in your area. On their website you can check out the contractors’ BBB rating and review if they have had any previously unresolved complaints from customers.

Second is Angie's List.  There are a myriad of websites that offer online reviews, but many of them are filled with bogus reviews - both good and bad - which prevent you from getting an accurate picture of the kind of company that you're interested in doing business with.  Only Angie's List members pay for the privilege of joining a trusted online community where they know that the information they're getting from their fellow members has been verified, so they can be certain that the company they're selecting is reputable.

Finally, there's the FindAPainter.com website. This is one of the Painting & Decorating Contractors of America’s website where you can search for PDCA painters in your area. The PDCA is the painting industry’s premier trade organization. They work with architects, engineers, and industry specifiers to set the standards for the way that quality painting work should be done. PDCA painters and better educated in proper techniques as well as the latest technological advances in the industry. Most importantly, PDCA painters pledge to follow these quality standards so you can feel comfortable that you are selecting a professional that will give you the best value for your money and who doesn’t cut corners on your home.

How do you apply the paint?

We use a variety of application methods; from brush to roller to airless spray application. Our method of application will depend on what best suits your particular situation and your comfort level, but it will always be the method that will provide you with the best quality finish possible.

How long will my painting project take to complete?

Each painting project is unique. Depending on the Scope Of Work to be completed your estimator will discuss with you the projected start date and completion date of your project before work gets under way. However, the vast majority of our painting projects take less than a week to complete; even whole-home repaints.

OK, I’ve decided to hire you as my painting contractor. Where do we go from here?

We want to make the process as easy on you as possible. Just contact your estimator or call our office to let us know that you have accepted our proposal. They will schedule your project, get a list of your color choices, and set an appointment for you to sign the job contract. We’ll handle all of the details and stay in constant contact with you throughout the job to keep you updated on the progress.

What if I need help in selecting colors?

From apps for your smart phone to free virtual painting software that allows you to paint digital photos of your home to discounted professional design services through our partnership program; we have all the solutions to your color dilemmas.

Who will be there to answer my questions and address my concerns throughout the project?

We encourage you to feel free to talk with your estimator, crew leader, or project manager if you have changes that you would like to make or additional work that you would like to have completed. In most cases it is more cost-effective for us to issue Change Orders or Additional Work Orders during the course of the project than for us to come back after the project is complete. We are always happy to accommodate your requests!

Is it cheaper to hire a painter or do it yourself

For a handy DIY'er, there is no doubt you will initially save money on a painting project by doing it yourself. If you have questions, you can submit anything to us through our online chat and we will happily try to help. The cost savings in the end comes down to whether or not you place a value on your time. For some people, painting is a fun challenge or a therapeutic activity. For those people, if they can complete the project safely and skillfully, painting can be a great DIY project. For others, the realization that a crew of professionals may produce a better end product (with a warranty) over the course of a few days versus what they can do themselves while surrendering a summer's worth of weekends can far offset the initial dollar savings in value. That choice is up to each individual.

What's the difference between interior paint and exterior paint

Some people mistakenly believe that using exterior paint indoors will give them a more durable finish, or that using interior paint outdoors might save money. Both approaches can cause problems. Interior paint won’t hold up to outdoor conditions and will wash away over time. On the other hand, exterior paint contains fungicides and biocides to prevent mold, mildew, and organic growth, which can leach into the air for years, posing potential health risks.

How to prep walls for painting after removing wallpaper

You never know how easily wallpaper will come off or what condition the wall underneath will be in until the wallpaper is removed. This is why many reputable companies handle wallpaper removal on a time-and-materials (T&M) basis. The ease of removal and the state of the wall depend largely on how the wallpaper was originally installed. Was the wall properly prepped? Was primer and wallpaper sizing used, or was it applied directly? What type of adhesive was used—clay-based, synthetic, or fungicidal? These factors greatly influence the condition of the wall and how much effort will be needed to get it paint-ready. Before painting, all surfactants like old paste, sizing, and any mold or mildew must be cleaned off. Any damage caused during or before removal needs to be patched. Finally, after patching, the walls should be primed to ensure a smooth and lasting finish when painted.

How to remove flaking paint from exterior walls

Removing peeling paint can be either a quick fix or a more involved process. Before any painting, the exterior should be pressure washed to clean and prepare the surface. If the paint is in good condition overall and you only have a few problem areas, you can simply scrape off the peeling sections using a paint scraper or a 5-in-1 tool, generally available at any hardware or paint store. Scrape down to a stable surface, and for a smoother finish, you can bevel sand the edges to blend the scraped area. Keep in mind that most painters don't include bevel sanding as part of a standard exterior repaint. If you'd like this done, be sure to discuss it with your painter and ask for the cost of upgrading to a "refinish," as it is typically a significant price increase over a standard repaint. If there's extensive peeling, you may need to use a chemical paint stripper to fully remove the failing paint, or you risk ongoing issues with base coat failure.

Should i paint or stain my deck

Wood decks are typically finished with either a semi-transparent stain, semi-translucent stain, or solid color stain. People often confuse solid color stain with paint, as both fully cover the wood's natural color. However, stain penetrates the wood more deeply than paint and, especially with the first few coats, still allows the texture of the wood grain to show through.

Can you paint stucco

Stucco paints very well. In order to keep stucco in good condition and to extend the serviceable life of the stucco it should be kept painted and properly caulked. Specialty masonry paints are often used to handle the high pH of stucco surfaces.

Can you use exterior paint indoors

It's not recommended to use exterior paint indoors. Exterior paints contain biocides and other chemicals designed to prevent the growth of mold and mildew, which can gradually release into the air. This can negatively impact indoor air quality and pose potential health risks for those living in the space.

Cow to take paint off brick

Paint is very difficult to fully remove from brick. Once brick is painted, it is generally best to keep it painted. If there is failing paint that needs to be removed prior to repainting, the majority can be removed by pressure washing, followed by scraping any remaining loose edges. Bare spots should be spot primed before repainting. If full removal is needed, it may be done by specialty abrasive blasting such as soda-blasting or dry-ice blasting.

How long does exterior paint take to dry

Depending or ambient conditions, exterior paint may be dry to the touch in as little as 10 minutes or as long as a few hours. Cold temperatures and high humidity will slow the drying of paint. However, even with quick dry times most exterior paints may be damaged by early moisture exposure. If rain is an issue, it is best to either use specialty paints with early moisture resistance or to make sure that you are painting at a time when it will not rain (or dew or frost) for at least a few hours after application.

What sheen for exterior paint

Sheen is a matter of individual preference. Most people choose a satin sheen for exterior surfaces in good condition, but may choose flat for rougher condition surfaces to help hide the imperfections. Gloss is normally not used or limited to front doors or specialty items.

How long does it take for interior paint to dry

Depending on the product used and the temperature and humidity inside the home, interior paint may take from 45 minutes to multiple hours to dry. Running an air conditioner to minimze humidity is helpful to faster dry times.

Can you use interior paint outside

Interior paint will fail 100% of the time if used outside.

Can you paint over wallpaper

While the industry standard advises against painting over wallpaper, the reality is that if the wallpaper is in excellent condition with tight seams, it's sometimes possible to paint over it successfully. However, it does come with risks, such as bubbling or peeling over time. Many people choose to take the chance, but it's important to understand that results can vary.

Can you paint aluminum siding

Aluminum siding can be painted effectively, but for the best results, it's important to spray the paint rather than brush or roll it. How much does it cost to paint a house exterior

The cost of painting varies widely based on several factors, including the size of the house, the specific areas to be painted (such as walls, trim, windows, shutters, doors, garage doors, etc.), access difficulties, and the condition of those surfaces. Smaller, simpler homes may cost a few thousand dollars, while larger homes with more complex and challenging paint jobs can reach tens of thousands of dollars.

How often to paint house exterior

The life of a paint job ranges greatly on the substrate, the condition of the substrate, and the climate of the region. A paint job in harsh, salty environments on wood or EIFS may only last four or five years... in some mild weather areas on good substrates a paint job could last 15+ years in good condition.

Can vinyl siding be painted

Painting darker colors on most older vinyls will absorb more heat than the vinyl is designed to withstand, causing extreme warping.

What's the best way to paint a textured ceiling

To paint a textured ceiling, start off by covering everything below that needs to be protected, then tape and drape the walls (if not being painted), cut in the outer edges with a 3" angle sash brush, and roll the ceiling in a progressive end to end manner trying to keep a wet edge using a 3/4" roller on an extension pole.
