For those of you that don't know Gordon Ramsay or the 'Kitchen Nightmares' television show - you're missing out on some great reality tv.
Whether it's Simon Cowell or Supernanny, who doesn't love watching some opinionated Brit berate some of our fellow Americans who've deliberately put themselves in harm's way?
So, when our office got a call from the 'Kitchen Nighmares' production staff inviting us to be the painting company for their Pittsburgh episode, we were thrilled to accept. (OK, we'd seen the show before so maybe we were a little afraid to say no to Gordon.)
All jokes aside, the show offers a wonderful service to discouraged small business owners to help them save their struggling restaurants from disaster. As a small, locally-owned operation ourselves we understand the difficulties of maintaining a healthy business and we were honored to play even a tiny role in this cause.
'Kitchen Nightmares' Helps Save Miss Jean's Southern Cuisine Restaurant In Pittsburgh
Chef Ramsay travels to the suburbs of Pittsburgh to help a desperate retired special-education teacher who put her entire life's savings into her failing restaurant. Miss Jean's Southern Cuisine (aka Jean's Soul Food) is located in Wilkinsburg. You can check out her restaurant profile at Urbanspoon.com
Ramsay and crew had their work cut out for them as the word around town was that, despite the fact that Jean's restaurant was putting out some top quality soul food, the attitude and the service were putting customers off.
The transformation that the audience sees in front of the camera is impressive enough, but the work that happens behind the scenes of a show like this is truly remarkable. The production staff sets up shop in an adjoining parking lot; complete with tents, trucks, trailers, equipment, and countless workers to pull off this minor miracle in a matter of just a couple of days.
When our office got the call just before the weekend, they were looking for a painting company that could meet their nearly impossible deadline of dispatching a crew to start work the next day and help turn the restaurant over in a night for the filming of the final reveal.
Fortunately, alongside the other tradespeople and workers, our dedicated crew was able to fill their needs and the project was a success.
It is our wish for Jean that, with the show's assistance, she and her staff will be inspired to carry-on with all of the helpful changes that Chef Ramsay made possible for her, and that she can take full advantage of this wonderful opportunity that she's been given to reinvent her restaurant.
Please check out this episode when it airs on Friday, November 16th at 8 p.m. on FOX. And if you're in the neighborhood please stop in and support Jean at her newly revamped establishment.
